Tyler Truex wins at Concord

Posted by Rookie Legends Series on October 3, 2010 at 7:21 PM Comments comments (0)

Tyler Truex won in his first RLS start since Season 1 in a great race at concord. He lead 47 of 60 laps, taking the win in dominating fashion, picking up right where he left off in season 1. Aaron Wells finished the race in second over points leader David Rattler. Cameron Pierce, making his first RLS start finished in fourth and Marcus Dean had a great run in fifth spot. Defending Champion Mike Stodder was looking to make some points up on David Rattler but unfortunately was involved in a single car spin checking up for the last yellow, which relegated Stodder to a 6th place finish. The series races at Darlington next week with both David Rattler and Mike Stodder still going at it for the title.

Aaron Wells wins at Richmond

Aaron Wells won his first race of the season in a great race at Richmond. At first glance the race would appear to be very tame as the race saw only 1 caution for only 5 laps, the racers were driving it three and four wide in what turned out to be a fantastic and clean race. 5 time race winner Peter Vasilopanagos made a great comeback after being involved in the first caution, going one lap down, earning the lucky dog and fighting back through the back to pack to earn 2nd place, which by the way is his worst finish all season. Dylan Goodin made a very impressive run for his best finish of the season in 3rd. David Rattler, who won his second consecutive pole of the season, increased his point lead with 4th place run. Thomas Miteer II rounded out the top five in 5th, scoring his 4th top five of the season. However, all of the close and tight racing would allow Aaron Wells to gain a lead that he would not give back and gain his first victory of the season. Courtesy of  some early race trouble by second place in points, Mike Stodder, David Rattler now has his biggest points lead of the season at 20 points, but the title fight is far from over as the series heads to Concord.

Peter Vasilopanagos wins his fifth at Martinsville

Despite not running for points Peter Vasilopanagos has made quite an impression on the Rookie Legends Series this season as he earned his 5th victory of the season in as many races at Martinsville. Points leader David Rattler earned his first pole of the season and lead the field to green, but it wouldn't take Peter Vasilopanagos long to take a look under Rattler and grab the lead. David Rattler, who appeared to be the fastest on the track put immediate pressure on Vasilopanagos for the lead, but a series of mid-race cautions would halt his charge. Meanwhile the fight was on for third place, as Aaron Wells and defending champion Mike Stodder traded positions back and forth until a late race penalty relegated Wells to a 7th place finish, which would allow Stodder to secure 3rd spot. Dylan Goodin and David Brownell both had strong runs, both earning their first top 5 of the season in 4th and 5th respectively. A 2nd place run by Rattler would help him extend his points lead to 10 points over Mike Stodder. At the end of the day it was all Peter Vasilopanagos earning his fifth victory of the season.

Mike Stodder wins at Phoenix

Defending champion Mike Stodder won the Phoenix 60 to take his first win of the season. Logan Sheets started from pole and lead for 29 laps clinching most laps lead. The top four of Logan Sheets, Aaron Wells, David Rattler and Mike Stodder pulled ahead and ran together for most of the race. On a restart Logan Sheets had a problem getting through the gears and Mike Stodder took the lead for good. Stodder held off some late race challenges from Aaron Wells to claim his 5th RLS victory and first of the season. Aaron Wells, who was running in the 2nd position looped it around on the last lap while going for the lead, which resulted in a 7th place finish. David Rattler strengthened his points lead with a 2nd place finish, and Logan Sheets jumped to 2nd in points with a 3rd place finish. Thomas Mitteer II had a strong run in 4th and Ryan Jarred, making his first start of the season was 5th.

Mike Stodder won the pole and lead the first 93 laps but last weeks winner Peter Vasilopanagos took the lead on lap 93 and lead the final 7 en route to his second consecutive victory of the season in as many races. Tyler Burgess finished third. Randy Hedrick and David Rattler rounded out the top 5. Tyler Edwards had his share of bad luck, but was able to rally back to 9th after a late race incident. Dylan Goodin also had a strong run in 10th which was a great rebound from last week's misfortunes. Peter Vasilopanagos now holds a 4 point lead over Mike Stodder. Randy Hedrick sits only 16 points behind in 3rd after back to back top 10's.

Peter Vasilopanagos wins the Lanier 99

Vasilopanagos... Well by the looks of it the other drivers better get used to that last name, because the No. 9 of Peter Vasilopanagos  won the pole and set fast lap en route to his first RLS victory in the Lanier 99 over defending champion Mike Stodder. Mike Stodder proved to be Vasilopanagos' only challenger as he would take the lead and lead for 11 laps before losing it again to Vasilopanagos, the two would be the only leaders of the 99 lap race. Martin Tuck finished a close third, and Brenden Johnson and William Webb rounded out the top 5, both with great runs. Randy Hedrick made an impressive run back up to 6th after being caught up in a mid-race incident. Nickalos Nyznick had his share of bad luck, while running in the top three he was a part of a multi car incident which relegated him to a 11th place finish. So with 1 down and 11 left to run Peter Vasilopanagos holds a mere 2 point lead over Mike Stodder as the series heads next week to Oxford.

Mike Stodder had four victories this season, coming at Darlington, the Charlotte legends oval, Concord and the RLS 100 at Lanier. He also claimed victory in this season's All-Star race. Thomas Miteer II proved that consistency can put you in championship contention, he had 8 top 5's this season, more than any other driver ,however unfortunately he would end the season winless which left him 33 points behind Mike Stodder in a close 2nd. Marcus Dean finished third in points, and although he would also end the season winless he proved he was a dangerous competitor with a streak of 5 consecutive top 5 finishes. 4th in points was Aaron Wells who had a solid season, earning a victory at phoenix. David Rattler rounded out the top 5 with an excellent season, he would a earn a total of 3 poles to accompany his two wins, coming at a dominant race in South Boston and a shocking win at Charlotte. Caleb Hindes and Corey were both able to find victory lane this season with Caleb winning a close race at Oxford over Champ Mike Stodder, and Corey winning at South Boston over Thomas Miteer II. Defending champion Brett Gutschow proved victorious in his only race this season at the season opener in South Boston. The drivers now look towards season 3 which begins July 25th at Lanier.
